Internship Program

STRAPS Mission
STRAPS mission is to organize, promote, administer, and conduct a variety of adaptive and Paralympic-style sports for wounded service members and veterans as well as other adults and youth. STRAPS athletes strive to become role models and mentors to others with disabilities as they promote character development through sports. 

Job Summary
STRAPS is currently seeking individuals who are enthusiastic about the adaptive sports world and want to help provide adaptive sport opportunities to individuals with physical disabilities or visual impairments. Interns will assist with weekly sport programs, coordinate volunteers, update weekly schedule changes, complete wheelchair maintenance, and help with event planning. Interns will also work closely with their supervisor to ensure that athletes are receiving the best possible individualized outcomes.

Job Responsibilities

    • Assist or lead weekly sport practices 
    • Volunteer coordination 
    • Daily communication with staff, athletes, coaches, and volunteers 
    • Update program calendars across all platforms 

Job Skills & Qualifications

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certifications
  • Ability to communicate and interact appropriately with all levels of staff, athletes, and volunteers
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40lbs
  • Be able to operate Outlook or have experience in similar email service
  • Microsoft Skills Required (must be able to operate Excel and Word with an above average knowledge)

Preferred
Programs related to: Recreation Therapy, Adapted Physical Education, Adapted Physical Activity, or Recreation Administration

Intern Schedule
Spring: January – May
Summer: May – August
Fall: August – December
